Zhengzhou University, the former Henan Medical University, is found in 1928. It is one of the earliest Chinese medical higher education institutions recognized by WHO (World Health Organization) and approved to offer master and doctor degree programs in China. It is also one of the earliest universities offering EMI (English Mediated Instruction) medical programs in China. Zhengzhou University began to recruit the first batch of international medical postgraduates in 1988. After years of remitting efforts, the Medical School of Zhengzhou University has developed into an integrated medical teaching system including six colleges and two departments including Basic Medical College, Clinical Medical College, College of Public Health, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Stomatology and Department of Medical Examination College, Department of Clinical Medicine, which covers over 40 specialties of five categories. The programs for international students include all type undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by the Medical School, such as MBBS. According to statistics, since 2000 more than 1000 undergraduate students have completed their medical study with degrees. At present there are  939 undergraduate students studying medicine in Zhengzhou Universities. They are from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Eritrea, Botswana, Myanmar, Peru, Maldives, Zimbabwe, the U.S.A., Canada, Austria, the UK, etc.

Zhengzhou University has an abundance of resources. The University now has four main campuses (New Campus, South Campus, Technological Institute, and Medical School) occupying an area of 1070 acres, of which the New Campus comprises 799 acres.

At present, the enrolled number of full-time students is over 49,000, with 15,000 graduate students and 1,300 international students.

The University Library contains about 7.91 million volumes, and 1.05 million volumes of electronic books. The university has its own publishing house, and publishes 13 academic journals.

Zhengzhou University has taken an active part in international academic exchange and cooperation. At present, it has established a sound exchange relationship with 84 universities from more than 30 countries and regions of the world, mainly from the United States of America, Great Britain, France, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Finland, Ukraine, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and districts.

The university focuses on the people, pays attention to the students’ quality in a comprehensive way and has trained a group of qualified graduates for the society. In the areas of political science, teaching, scientific research, medical care, management, students’ work and logistics service, the university has won above-provincial level honor titles many times.
