Fujian Medical University (FMU) was founded in 1937. Through 77 years of development, it’s become a provincial educational institution to combine teaching, scientific research, medical treatment and social services, producing bachelors, masters, and PhDs. The university is located in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province. Now it consists of Shangjie campus and Taijiang campus, covering an area of approximately 100 hectares with a floor space of 400,000 square meters. At present, the university comprises 20 schools and departments, which offer 24 undergraduate programs, including Clinical Medicine (7-Year Program and 5-Year Program), Preventive Medicine, Stomatological Medicine, Medical Inspection Technology, Anesthesiology, Nursing, Medical Imageology, Pharmacy, Public Affairs Management, Social Work, Rehabilitation Therapy, Applied Psychology, Pharmaceutical Preparation, English, Basic Medical Science, Clinical Pharmacy, Biological Pharmaceutical, Food Quality and Safety, Medical Imaging Technology, Health Inspection and Quarantine, Medical Laboratory Technology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering. There are 29 doctorate programs, 63 master programs, and 5 authorized master degree specialties. For now, it has an enrollment of 23,500 full-time students, of whom over 13,000 are undergraduates, and about 2,600 doctoral and master’s programs learners. Currently, FMU has a staff of about 9280 with a faculty of 1241. Among them, those with senior professional title account for 70.75%, and there’re 111 doctoral advisers and 618 master tutors. Besides, it boasts 16 affiliated hospitals and 30 clinical teaching-oriented hospitals, forming a relatively complete system for clinical teaching and fieldwork.

FMU has also attached great importance to academic research. It hosts 2 post-doctor clinical and preclinical research center, 87 research institutions, 1 national key discipline, 2 provincial Project 211 key disciplines, 13 provincial key disciplines, 13 key disciplines of Provincial Education Department, 8 disciplines of prior development designated by Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 6 key laboratories designated by Fujian Province, 1 provincial engineering research center, which have undertaken great scientific tasks, and made remarkable achievements. The University has published and issued several academic journals to readers at home and abroad, including The Journal of Fujian Medical University (the medical science edition), The Journal of Fujian Medical University (the social science edition), Chinese Journal of Hypertension, and Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation. The University Library, as the main medical library of Fujian province, holds an area of 25,600 square meters and a collection of 2.40 million volumes.

Since 1998 it has enrolled more than 300 international students. Since 2008 FMU has been listed as the university which is qualified to recruit the foreign students of medicine taught in English by National Education Ministry. In 2011, FMU was approved as the university to accept the Chinese government scholarship students. The Overseas Education College serves for recruiting those of foreign citizenship, and for conducting various academic exchanges and trainings internationally.
